P90X Review

p90x

Not too long ago I was surfing the internet looking for P90X reviews wondering if this program really works. I saw the infomercial like you probably did and figured it must be some kind of gimmick or something. The more I looked into it, the more solid it seemed. A lot of people seemed to be getting really good results. I finally decided there was only one way to know for sure if this program would work for me. I was pretty out of shape, about 45-50 pounds overweight and hadn’t worked out in at least 15 years. I feared that it might be a little too intense for me but I knew I had to do something, I had to make some kind of change in my life and reclaim my health.

First of all, if you’re not even sure what P90X is, let me just quickly explain it for you. P90X is a set of 12 highly diverse and intense workouts on DVD. The program also comes with a comprehensive 3-Phase Nutrition Plan, a detailed Fitness Guide, a P90X Calendar and tracking worksheets, and 24/7 online support. All you need is a small space (about 6 by 6 feet), a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, a pull-up bar, and about an hour a day.

The 12 workouts are:

- Chest and Back
- Plyometrics
- Shoulders and Arms
- Yoga
- Legs and Back
- Kenpo X
- X Stretch
- Core Synergistics
- Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
- Back and Biceps
- Cardio X
- Ab Ripper X

I wish I would have taken better pictures instead of cell phone pics but I think you get the idea.  It’s pretty plain to see that P90X works and works very well!  I lost a total of 42 pounds in 90 days and added quite a bit of muscle.  I went from a size 36 waist to a 32 and I feel better than I’ve felt in many years.  When you think about it though, how can P90X not work?  It’s intense exercise coupled with proper nutrition…that combination always works.  The only way it won’t work is if you don’t do the workouts or if you eat like crap!

One thing I really liked about this program is that they show you how to modify all the moves until you build the strength to do them unmodified.  When I first started, I could only do a few pushups and maybe one pull up (I know, pretty bad).  But I just did what I could, modified when needed, and was amazed at how much stronger I got from week to week.  By the end of the 90 days, I could do 35-40 pushups and about 12 pull ups unassisted.  Pull ups are not my strong suit still, but 12 is a heck of a lot better than the 1 I could do at the beginning.  Having a bit of a bad right shoulder, I probably won’t ever be a pull up champ but I’m ok with that.  I’m thrilled with the progress I’ve made.

Overall, I think P90X is an excellent program.  Very well thought out and put together.  Doing the program has made me very passionate about health and fitness.  It’s a way of life for me now, healthy eating and exercising.  I now enjoy helping other people go through the program too.  I answer questions about the workouts and nutrition (70-80% of the equation in my opinion), and generally just am there to motivate and encourage anyone who wants to try it.  I’ve also set up a private Facebook group as a place for us all to interact and keep each other motivated.  As of writing this, there are over 200 of us in the group.
