I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve received over the last couple of years from people who are considering trying Power 90, P90X, Les Mills Pump, or some other Beachbody home workout program asking if it’s too late for them to start exercising and changing their health for the better. These emails are typically from people who are maybe in their 40′s or later or from people who are extremely out of shape and haven’t exercised in years and years. My answer is always the same…it’s never too late!
It seems people reach a certain age or a certain level of obesity and figure that’s just the way it’s supposed to be for them…that it’s somehow normal to be unhealthy and overweight because hey, most people are! Or their doctor told them that it wouldn’t do them any good to exercise because of a certain health condition they had (yes I’ve actually heard this on more than one occasion). I typically use myself as an example when telling them it’s not too late. I was 42 years old when I started P90X, 50 pounds overweight, and hadn’t exercised in years. I certainly wasn’t an extreme case but still, I was far from the picture of health. Then I came across the video below, and if this doesn’t convince you that anything is possible no matter what your current circumstances, then I don’t know what will…
What an amazing transformation! It just goes to show you that you don’t have to be perfect when starting out, you just have to start. So many people write to me and tell me that they’re not sure they should continue with whatever workout program they decided to do because they can’t do a lot of the moves with perfect form and they don’t think they’re getting the most out of it. Are you kidding me? What’s the alternative, go back to the couch with a bag of potato chips? Strive for progress, not perfection! Just show up every day, do your best, and be persistent…and you WILL get results.
Many of the people I coach are doing P90X and one of the most common questions I get is this…”Can I skip the Yoga workout? It’s too long, I just want to lift weights”. My answer? No! This video clearly demonstrates the power of Yoga and what it can do for your body and health. Yoga combines everything…power, balance, flexibility, endurance, strength. Don’t skip Yoga my P90X people!
Never Give Up!
